Mental health problems are on the rise in the western world.  Suicide is now the leading cause of death in men under 50.  Myriad factors contribute to the development of mental illness in any given individual but Professor Kate Pickett and Professor Richard Wilkinson point the finger at inequality and its correlation with stress.

Their book, ‘The Inner Level: How More Equal Societies Reduce stress, Restore Sanity and Improve Everyone’s Well-being’ was published in 2018, and sought to explain the misery of people living the richest nations on earth.

Here, Kate Pickett discusses their research with Simon Fanshawe OBE and the audience at the Pathways from Homelessness conference.
