A recent study from the University of Birmingham discovered that homeless people are finding themselves unable to register at GP surgeries and being discharged from hospital onto the streets.
Homeless psychiatric admissions cost almost £2.7million annually across just 4 London Boroughs. Mental illness and its manifestations (self-harm, substance misuse) are common amongst the homeless population and present an urgent need for medical care whilst also being cited as barriers to care. A vicious cycle is created.
